Women and Time Management
For some women, time management is especially difficult because we want to get it all done and by committing to a
time management program, we sometimes feel as if we are saying no to as many things as we are saying yes to. In
reality, though by employing solid principles of time management, most women will see that they can accomplish
more.
For some women, time management is second nature. They plan everything and are constantly making lists. They rarely
forget anything because it is committed to paper. Work at home moms have a huge juggling act to perform every day
and effective time management is an essential tool. The efficient work at home mom with kids in school has a school
calendar handy with every major holiday and vacation circled and plans her work and family commitments
accordingly.
For mothers who are stay at home working women, time management has to be involved in every aspect of their lives,
both personal and professional. Kids are going to come up with things at the very last moment that they forgot to
tell you and have to have immediately, they are definitely going to get sick and for those efficient work at home
women, time management skills will prevent these situations from becoming the disasters they often are.
Women, time management, and lists just naturally go together. Most women like things done in an orderly fashion and
it's a good thing too because women often take on far too many things and if not for list-making and planning every
detail, many things would go undone. The work at home mom has an even greater challenge because she already has a
full-time job at home with raising the children and running the house but once she takes on an additional job, she
has to be super-organized.
Just as they will find an extra nickel in the budget when there's a need, for women, time management means they can
get more done which may translate to more money in the budget or a well-cared for home or especially well-cared for
children. Some women simply do the math and realize that for their situation, it makes more economical sense to
work at home rather than leave home to work and pay for childcare and other expenses like dry cleaning and the
inevitable lunch out.
Although most women will agree on popular time management techniques such as keeping a planner or calendar and
making lists, for some women, time management means different things than it does to other women. For example, one
woman's idea of time management may mean to fold the laundry or cut coupons while she watches her favorite
television show while to another woman that may be her only time to relax and so she does no chores during that
time.
For some women, time management may mean making the most of "microwave minutes" meaning they feed the dog or put
the dishes away as soon as they put something in the microwave oven. When you look for these little snippets of
time, you'll be amazed at how much you can accomplish in a short time. The savvy work-at-home mother knows this and
finds her snippets throughout the day.
On the other hand, for some women, time management means keeping work and their personal life totally separate and
while they may be time managing machines during working hours, once the whistle blows, there's no more looking at
the clock.
Most work at home moms realize the incredible balancing act they are going to have to perform to make their work
lives and family lives harmonious. After all, they are home for a reason and most of them will fight to stay
there.
