Finding the Right Time Management Planner
A time management planner is one of the best investments you can make. A good planner of this nature is so much
more than a mere calendar. In this day and age of high tech toys and gadgetry there are all kinds of devices and
programs that you can have to keep you in order and organized. There are some great items on the market that make
for a very effective time management planner.
The key, as always, is in finding the time management planner that will work for you. It doesn't matter how much or
little money you spend on a planner of this nature if you do not use it for it's intended purpose and use it
faithfully. Whatever type of time management planner you decide to incorporate into your life you need to make sure
you have it with you at all times.
This is one reason that PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant) are so appealing for this purpose. They are very portable
and rather easy to incorporate into everything. In one place you can have a day planner, calendar, address book,
memo board, note taker, and reminder service. They are small and compact which in most cases is a great thing.
However, if you do not keep yours with you at all times, it becomes a waste of money, as it will not be an
effective time management planner for your busy lifestyle.
My personal favorite has always and will continue to be the common ordinary calendar. You can find them in all
shapes and sizes. I tend to buy them small enough to tuck into my purse but prefer those that have calendars
(pre-dated), address books, pages for notes, and an area for recurring dates to carry over to the next calendar.
Trust me I have no problem with modern technology. That is not the reason I prefer paper calendars by any means. I
have serious issues however when it comes to charging batteries. For this reason a PDA is not the most effective
time management planner for me.
Some people are able to rely on their laptops as an effective time management planner. I am not the sort of person
that is going to take my laptop to soccer practice-at least not unless I'm seriously behind on a deadline. For this
reason that would not work for me at all. Add to that the battery issue and we have yet another reason this isn't
good for me. This doesn't mean that there aren't those who are diligent in charging batteries for their electronic
devices (though these are usually those that do not have time management issues) but I am one of those that waits
until the battery is dead before making revitalization attempts.
While I recommend a time management planner that you can take with you at all times, there are families that work
well with centralized dry erase or chalk boards for their time management needs. If you do not need quite the level
of time management diligence that one like myself requires and this works for you then there is no harm whatsoever
in incorporating this into your family life. It will help you plan your days according to what's going on, keep up
with what's going on, plan meals and family time, as well as leave little notes of encouragement to each other.
The most important thing to remember when purchasing a time management planner is that an unused time management
planner is ineffective. If you aren't going to put your planner to use then there really is no point in making the
investment.
